Background

Future Development

The Academy is currently working on the following improvements for the students and curriculum:

  • Student magazine – produced by and for the students. We want the students to have the opportunity to produce their own magazine about the subjects they feel passionately about. This will link in with the Islamic Media module which runs in the third year of the Islamic Studies degree.
  • Media and Finance Departments – We currently offer modules in these areas but due to the importance of the subjects, we intend to establish individual departments, allowing more in depth study and research.
  • Study Abroad – we understand the importance of the student of the Arabic language to gain as much practice as possible in Arabic and so we will try to offer students the opportunity to undertake a month of study in an Arabic speaking country. We propose that this will be for the students who are studying Arabic for at least a year. Countries that we hope to partner with are Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon and the UAE.
  • Lecture Programme – we are going to hold monthly lectures with international Islamic scholars, which will coincide with the Islamic Studies degree and the short courses.
  • Conferences – we will arrange conferences to address Islamic issues, particularly with reference to issues concerning Islam and the West.
  • Community Workshops – It is important to bring the local and wider community together, and we envisage doing this by holding day or weekend workshops for local community groups such as the police and schools.
  • Online Learning – we hope to offer online learning for those people that can not attend university at our East London campus but still wish to study one of our courses.
  • Links with the Outreach Foundation – please see the website from our partner organization (here) to find out about the institutes and projects that we support in Central Asia and Russia. There may be the opportunity for our students to spend some time learning or volunteering in one of these.
